When the BBC Model B was released in 1981, A&B Computing was one of the first independent magazines you could buy to help you program it. It stuck with the Beeb through a wonderous period of change - new gadgets must have been arriving in the A&B offices practically every day! In the A&B magazines you can find articles not only on every conceivable piece of hardware but also on the Torch machine, the B+, the Master and the Acorn Electron.
A&B had a forward-looking philosophy. As new machines appeared, it dumped the old ones. Even if it published code for the new machines that would work on the older ones, it left its readers to fathom that out. It began officially supporting the Acorn Electron at around Volume 1 Number 5. It stopped officially supporting it at Volume 4 Number 8. Every listing which appeared in every magazine for
the BBC series is available to download below.
There were originally no companion discs to A&B Computing - the reader had to type in the programs themselves. The discs in this archive are from the steaming-fingered Dave E. A&B did, however, produce some standalone
software, which is available over in the
Professional Releases (UK) archive.
Note that there is a 'jump' between A&B 1.16 and A&B 2.06. At this point A&B changed its numbering. But there is not a missing issue here.
