The BBC Micro's flagship publication was
The Micro User. It was published by Database Publications and, somewhat incredibly, had a run of over thirteen years. Each issue had a companion cassette and/or disc which could be purchased via mail order, and many of its programs, particularly the arcade games, would work on all BBC series machines, including the Acorn Electron.
Archiving
The Micro User discs has been difficult because the quality of the original media was very poor. Many of the early discs have degraded, and retrieving data from them has been impossible.
This library is a collection of 'official' discs and 'non-official' ones. On the 'non-official' ones, the disc has either been recreated from the companion cassette that
The Micro User originally supplied or, in a few cases, by typing in the programs directly from the magazine. Our ideal would be to have the official disc version of every disc in the library but this seems to be an unlikely prospect.
The full
Micro User library stretches to around 145 discs in total, so we have split this archive into
Volumes 1-6 (below) and
a further archive of Volumes 7-13.
