Click Here To See The Full Gallery! Doing the rounds in the Archimedes Public Domain libraries at the present time are numerous conversions of pictures by Patrick Nagel. They are very simplistic in style and, with this in mind, I thought that they would probably prove to be suitable for the Electron too. Originally they were in sixteen colours so I have had to take some liberties in converting them - they run on the BBC series in Mode 1 with just four - but I have tried to make a reasonable match when redefining the palette for each. I also had to crop them somewhat to fit the new screen size.

The screens are compressed using modified versions of the techniques described in EUG #17. Because of the style of the pictures, the compression proved extremely efficient - shrinking a 20k screen to 5k or less! On the Slideshow menu, you will see a choice between memory or disk compression. Memory will work much faster. There are a fair few files because of memory limitations when working with PAGE at &1D00 but the structure of the programs should be fairly simple to follow. The DATA statements consist of the prefix "N-" and the file number (so "N-01" loads file 1, etc) and two colours for redefining the palette.

Note that a couple of the images are a bit adult in nature but I have included them because they are quite exotic. If they are of interest to readers, I will attempt to convert some more of them but as I'm sure you know more than most, it's difficult to get a spare moment!

These are great. Personally I love this style of art. And yes, I do know.
