Detective

Game Objective

Detective is a game of deduction and tactics.

The object is to establish, by means of elimination and deduction, the identity of the murderer of Lucky Duke.

Your task is to find out who committed the crime, the weapon used, the place of the crime and the killer's motive.

Each player plays one of the characters in the game. The computer will tell you which of the nine characters you are to play, and the murderer cannot be one of the players.

Game Start

All players start in the Park (Square One). The computer throws a die and you can move any number of squares up to the number on the die. (You must move at least one square.)

If you move past square nine, you come back to square one.

Each player possesses a different shape.

Codes

Each player will be given a set of secret codes for the names of the characters, the murder weapons and the motives.

You will use the codes to help you to solve the crime without other players being able to follow your progress.

When you arrive at a location, you can enter codes to call to that place a character whom you think may have committed the crime, a weapon, and a motive.

The computer will indicate the accuracy of your claim by printing out a sequence of Ys and Ns.

For example, if your location and the weapon are correct, but the character and the motive are wrong, you get YNYN on play level 1. On play level 2, you would only get YY.

The Winner

The winner is the first player who, while at the scene of the crime, correctly identifies the murderer, the weapon used and the motive.

Initially, you do not know which characters the other players are playing, but you can quickly work it out and can then hinder their progress by calling them away from their destination.

However, be careful not to be outwitted by giving clues of your own codes to other players.

The game will last for up to ten turns on level 1, and up to fifteen turns on level 2.

If no player has won by then the game ends.
