Introduction
HYPERBALL consists of 6 sets (A to F) each with 20 arenas. The objective of the game is to cpmplete all 20 arenas in each set and hence discover the secret codewords - one for each set. Once you have discovered the 6 secret codewords, write to Superior Software and we will send you a signed certificate.
Fragments
When blocks are smashed, fragments sometimes fall. Catching these may help or hinder.
Infrared
Shows up all invisible blocks.
Laser
A primitive laser, to shoot blocks.
Indestruct
The ball ploughs through all the blocks.
Smart-Block
Catch 3 of these to complete the arena.
Slowball
Slows the ball for a random period of time.
Stickball
Sticks the ball to the bat, until relaunched.
Detonator
Gives an 8-ball split when the RETURN key is pressed.
Alien
Can accelerate the ball, damage the bat or magnetise the bat so that it pulls to the left.
In addition, catching a bonus bubble will give you 100 points.
Bonus Round And System Upgrade
Once an arena has been completed, a flashing bat appears below the score. Press SPACE when the bat is showing to earn extra points. The more bats you get, the greater the bonus (1000, 2000, 5000 or 10000).
The System Upgrade level then allows you to purchase special upgrades, provided you have sufficient points. SPACE allows you to view upgrades and RETURN to purchase an upgrade or quit the level. The upgrades are as follows: Side Mount Cannon, Quad Mount Cannon, Warp Drive (jumps a level), Quantum Energiser (the most powerful cannon), Infrared Enhancer and Regeneration Suit (for an extra life).
Loading New Sets
"Set A" is loaded with the game. To load other sets (or to re-load Set A), press L on the Menu Screen followed by the Set letter (A to F). The new set will then load from the disc or cassette, although you may have to run the cassette forwards or backwards to find the appropriate file (SETA, SETB, etc).
To complete an arena you must clear all the destructible blocks by hitting them with the ball (or by hitting them with laser or cannon bolts if you have a suitable weapon). Some blocks require two strikes and some blocks are invisible unless you have an infrared scanner.

Area-Jump Option
Pressing the COPY key followed by a number between 1 and 9 will allow you to jump directly to ARENA 1 to 9, provided that the arena selected has previously been played.
