The original HeadFirst PD disc contains all the source code, and a copy of the Repton Infinity main program. However, these versions are designed for those of you who have a copy of the main program on tape. To use these files therefore, you will need to copy the files supplied on the disk onto tape. A program is included to let you do this. Either select DISK TO TAPE COPIER from the "Repton Infinity Menu" or CHAIN it directly from the U(tilities) Directory.

You will of course need a blank cassette to save the files to. However, it is actually a fairly straightforward operation to transfer the games to a tape if you follow the instructions below.

Note that, for technical reasons, I was unable to store the Repton Infinity Games Collection in a directory called "eG" on the EUG #21 disk. "eG" is the prefix used for completed Repton Infinity games. Therefore, the directory they are stored in is called X.

After the DISK TO TAPE COPIER has loaded, you will be presented with a catalogue of directory X on the screen. You will note that it contains all of the filenames specified in the instructions below.

Type in the name of the game you wish to transfer to tape. The system will prefix it with "eG." before saving it.

When you have verified the save to tape, load in Repton Infinity and select L to load a game file. Type in the new filename, wind the tape to the correct place and hey presto!

Each of the six games has four levels, accessed by pressing a number from 1 to 4. The passwords for levels 2-4 are given by completing the level before.

Stone Wall

(Directory X. Filename SW)
In this game, you play the part of the head of the headless ghost. Unfortunately, the forgetful ghost has also managed to lose its legs. Your task is to try to find the body and legs, and push the body onto the legs. Then place yourself on top of the body to make the ghost whole. However, the ghost is rather frightened of you, having not seen you forsome time, and as soon as you do this it runs off to the next level of the castle.

Before rounding up the body and legs, you must eat all the berries found within the castle. Witches are there to try and prevent you completing your task. However there are also magic potions which turn them into berries. Witches, being keen on self-preservation, have planted bogus potions which will cause you to lose a life. Otherwise they keep themselves to themselves and do not harm you unless you walk into them.

Having negotiated your way, eating berries and drinking potions, you must then push your body round the castle to sit on top of the legs and then sit on top of that. This is not as easy as it sounds, as some of the floors are more like a garden maze than the interior of a castle. After you have successfully assembled (and then lost) the body, you must go to the staircase and press RETURN to go up.

Other items you may find on your travels are shields, which do nothing but can be moved; fireplaces, which don't do you a lot of good if you walk into them; trapdoors, which form the ancient secret passage system in the castle (you, your body and the shields can use these).

To get on to the next level, you must achieve a certain score; you will know when you have achieved this score by a fanfare and flashing screen. You can then press CAPS LK to move to the next level, or if you can gain more points you can continue on the present one.

Keys: Z - Left, X - Right, * - Up, ? - Down, RETURN - Go upstairs

Brickie

(Directory X. Filename BRIK)
This game is simple in theme, but extremely tricky to play. You, as the title character, left your pile of bricks alone while you went for a well earned tea-break and now they seem to have been populated by a mischevious population of monsters. The round creatures are very fast moving and kill you if you touch them. The only way you can kill them is by squashing then with bricks. You must try to contain them by blocking them in, then squash them. It's not as simple as it seems as they can move faster than you can and are totally unpredictable.

Killing all monsters on each level results in a fanfare and flashing screen; to go on to the next level press CAPS LK.

Keys: Z - Left, X - Right, * - Up, ? - Down

Pac Man

(Directory X. Filename PAC)
For anyone who doesn't know what this is, where have you been? However, this version is a bit different, so here are the instructions.

You play the part of Pac Man, a strange yellow ball with a large mouth and a distinct loathing of red ghosts. You must travel around your maze and eat the yellow dots (strange-looking food). This is also the aim of the ghosts, who are incidentally deadly to touch. However, help is at hand in the form of power pills (larger yellow dots with patterned centres) that allow you to kill the evil ghosts, who turn yellow with fright. To progress on to the next level, a certain quota of yellow dots must be eaten - so make sure you don't let the ghosts get too many. Collecting enough dots results in a fanfare and flashing screen; to go onto the next level press CAPS LK.

Keys: Z - Left, X - Right, * - Up, ? - Down, CAPS LK/FUNC - End Level (After Fanfare)

Note: You must ensure Pac Man eats a power pill then one ghost. You must ensure Pac Man is not killed by a red ghost on Pac Man's starting position. You must ensure you reach a minimum score before pressing CAPS LK/FUNC to end the level. Killing the ghosts is much more important than eating all the yellow dots.

Stone Wall II

(Directory X. Filename SW2)
In this game, you play the part of the head of the headless ghost. Unfortunately, the forgetful ghost has also managed to lose its legs. Your task is to try to find the body and legs, and push the body onto the legs. Then place yourself on top of the body to make the ghost whole. Kwak

(Directory X. Filename KWAK)
Kwak is a little green duck, who has wandered away from her stream and lost herself in a strange world. There is plenty of fruit for her to eat and she will need all of it to stay alive. Then there are her other problems: her co-habitants in the strange world. Weird hooded creatures with huge eyes, and strange smiley things on springs.

You must control Kwak and help her to escape from this horrible place. Move around eating all the apples and bananas you find and opendoors by collecting keys of the same colour. Watch out for the spring-things and hooded creatures, though, for they will cause you to lose a life. When you have collected all the fruit on the level, a fanfare will sound and the screen will flash. Press CAPS LK to move on to the next level. A map of the area is available on levels one and three.

Keys: Z - Left, X - Right, * - Up, ? - Down, M - Map of Level

Pac Man II

(Directory X. Filename PAC2)
The sequel (unsurprisingly!) to Pac Man.

The ghosts have got fed up of Pac Man and have decided to get rid of him once and for all. They have replaced his power pills with weakening pills, which have the opposite effect and enable the ghosts to eat him. You are one of the ghosts, and you must try and get the Pac Man chasing you to eat a weakening pill, and then you must devour him. You must also eat the yellow dots in the maze. There are four levels, and on later levels, you may encounter some of Pac Man's cousins. The same rules about going up a level apply as in Pac Man.
