"Overall this seems a worthwhile program for the enthusiastic astronomer, but perhaps rather overpriced at £12.95."
Electron User

"The graphics aren't exceptional but the features are better than any I've seen."

Introduction

This pack contains:

  • a computer program on cassette that displays star maps of the sky
  • a book all about astronomy
  • full instructions for using the software with your micro
The software shows exactly what you can see in the sky at any time, on any night you choose, andfrom anywhere in the world. It displays the stars visible to the naked eye and also the planets, Halley's Comet and the moon - impossible on a printed star map or planisphere as these heavenly bodies are constantly moving around the sky.

You identify the stars, planets and constellations by moving a 'space probe' across the screen to hit a star -its name then appears on the screen. You can also find out when your chosen stars and planets rise and set, to plan the best times for a night's stargazing. If it's too cloudy actually to go out and observe, you can stay in and look at the stars on your TV screen.

Heather Couper is president of the British Astronomical Association. Her book explains all about astronomy - how the stars and planets move, why stars change with the seasons, why you see different stars from different place, how far away stars are, what they are made of, their life cycles, the differences between white dwarfs and red giants, why Mars is red, whta Saturn's rings are like, why Halley's Comet visits the sun every 76 years, how we see the Moon's phases, what sunspots are and many other things.

This book and software package is ideal for astronomers of all ages.

This program runs on both the BBC Model B and the Electron and works from tape or disc.

The book on astronomy to accompany the Starfinder boxset is currently not available.
