TAPE TO DISC ROM
Slogger's T2CU ROM
"The Tape To Disk ROM was developed to fill the need for an easy way of running privately owned tape programs from disk, instead of the laborious wait of a program to load from tape, some programs, notably games, taking perhaps as much as five minutes to load!"

- Slogger, User Guide, 1986

What It Does

The TAPE TO DISK ROMS were conceived of as a way of transferring games on tape to a disc-based system when achieving the same results by 'hacking' a tape-based game was beyond the means of most computer users.

The ROM (a different ROM being required for each and every different type of disc interface) presents a standardised menu and creates one peculiar 'T.<filename>' game file for a full tape-based game. For example, if transferring ELITE, it would load and save files 'Elite', 'EliteData' and 'EliteCode' one by one, creating the file 'T.ELITE' on the disc.

The menu is also used to 'read' the game from disc into memory, the screen display being updated (with 'Searching' and 'Loading' messages!) exactly as the game was originally transferred. Typically, games transferred by this method loaded approximately 8 times as fast as the tape equivalent.

None of the discs contained on this web site have been transferred by these methods.
